About this calculator
An annual salary converts to an hourly rate by dividing by the hours actually worked in a year: hours per week times working weeks per year. At the common default of 40 hours and 52 weeks that is 2,080 hours, so a 60,000 salary is about 28.85 per hour.
Adjust the weeks to reflect reality: if you take four unpaid weeks off, divide by 48 weeks instead and the true hourly value of the salary rises. The same logic works in reverse — multiply an hourly offer back up to compare it with a salaried one.
These are gross (pre-tax) figures and ignore benefits, overtime and employer contributions, which can move the real comparison substantially in either direction.
