About this calculator
Your age in whole years increases only when your birthday arrives: the calculator counts complete calendar years from your date of birth, then the extra complete months, then the leftover days. Total days alive is the simple difference between the two dates.
Calendar months have different lengths, so "months and days" can surprise: from January 31 to March 1 is one month and one day, because the month from January 31 lands on February 28 (or 29). Born on February 29? By the convention used here you age on February 28 in non-leap years.
Change the "age on" date to answer other questions — how old someone was on a historical date, or how old they'll be when a future date comes around.
Frequently asked questions
How does the age calculator work?
It counts the complete calendar years from your date of birth to the 'age on' date, then the extra complete months, then the leftover days. Total days alive is simply the number of days between the two dates.
How is age counted for a February 29 birthday?
By the convention used here, someone born on February 29 gains a year on February 28 in non-leap years. Their whole-year age still ticks over once per calendar year, just on the 28th when there's no 29th.
How do I find someone's age on a specific past or future date?
Change the 'age on' field to the date you care about. Set it to a historical date to see how old someone was then, or a future date to see how old they'll be when it arrives.
How many days old am I?
Your total days alive is the straight count of calendar days from your birth date to today, leap days included. The calculator shows this figure alongside your age in years, months and days.
