About this calculator
BTW (belasting over de toegevoegde waarde) is the Dutch value-added tax. The standard rate is 21%: a €100 net price carries €21 of BTW for a €121 total. To add BTW, multiply the net amount by the rate and add the result.
A reduced 9% rate applies to essentials such as food, medicines, books and hairdressing, and a zero rate covers exports and some international services. Set the rate field to match your case.
Dutch businesses charge BTW on sales and reclaim it on purchases through their BTW-aangifte; the Belastingdienst publishes the authoritative rate rules.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Dutch BTW rate?
The standard rate is 21%, so a €100 net price becomes €121. A reduced 9% rate covers essentials such as food, medicines, books and hairdressing.
How do I remove BTW from a gross price?
Divide the inclusive amount by 1.21 at the standard rate: a €121 gross price is €100 net, so €21 is BTW. Divide by 1.09 for the reduced rate.
How much BTW is on €50?
At the 21% standard rate it is €10.50, for a €60.50 total. At the reduced 9% rate the same €50 net carries €4.50, giving €54.50.
