About this calculator

MwSt (Mehrwertsteuer) is Germany's value-added tax. The standard rate is 19%: a €100 net price carries €19 of MwSt for a €119 total. To add MwSt, multiply the net amount by the rate and add the result.

A reduced 7% rate applies to essentials including most food, books and newspapers, local public transport and cultural events. Some services — medical care, most rents — are exempt entirely. Set the rate field to match your case.

German businesses charge MwSt (shown as USt on invoices) and reclaim input tax through their Umsatzsteuervoranmeldung; the Bundesfinanzministerium publishes the authoritative rules.
