About this calculator
Australia's GST (goods and services tax) is a flat 10% on most goods and services: a $100 net price carries $10 of GST for a $110 total. To add GST, multiply the net amount by the rate and add the result — or to work backwards from a GST-inclusive price, divide it by 11 to find the GST inside it.
Some supplies are GST-free rather than taxed at 10%: most basic food, health services, education, and exports. Businesses registered for GST charge it on sales and claim credits for GST paid on purchases through their BAS; the ATO publishes the authoritative rules.
